Totem Batik
Totem Batik

The Totem Batik celebrates the eco-cultural narratives from the old times, by putting the living story of Indonesian cultural heritage as reflected in Batik, into the engraved ecological medium of teak woods drying over the years. The result is the amazing transformation of the 2-dimensional generative fractal image of batik into 3-dimensional art via the Balinese carving techniques.

.

This work resembles the creativity portraying “time” and “dimension”. The totem batik transforms the old time messages into contemporary art by extending the dimensionality of batik geometrical motifs in its entirety. It gives the promise to present the traditional culture as a modern experience of contemporary art.

Fraktal Batik
Fraktal Batik

Fraktal Batik is the way to explore Indonesian traditional batik through its unique fractal geometry. The mathematics of fractal has made it possible to compute batik and revive it from the tradition into the modern generative form of arts. This has been possible by the “Physics of Batik” delivered by researcher Hokky Situngkir and artist Arief Yuliarso from Bandung Fe Institute.
